With the massive popularity of films such as Black Panther, Deadpool 2, Infinity War, and the upcoming film Incredibles, our book club has decided to take a look at the superhero genre as handled in novel form. As this is our first club meeting, book choice will be open choice. However there will be requirements that will need to be met:
1) Book MUST be in novel form. It cannot be a graphic novel, manga, or trade collection.
2) Superhero must be the core genre of the book. It cannot be like briefly mentioned in a chapter for example.
3) Subject must be a superhero story and not an analysis of the genre. However, if you have additional time you can add them to your reading list.
During the club meeting we will have a free discussion of what you read along with the following topics:
How are superheroes in novel form handled differently than comic and film form?
Does this book succeed or fail in it's genre?
Could you see this story branching off to other formats?
If you haven't read anything but would like to add to the discussion about the superhero genre, you are welcome to join us.
Chat will be on our Discord Server. See here: http://www.centralvillainwriters.com/book-chat.html on how to join if you are not already.
Date and Time of discussion will be August 11th, 8:30pm EST
Reading Ideas:
Wild Cards edited by George R. R. Martin
Steelheart by Brian Sanderson
Soon I Will be Invincible by Austin Grossman
Sidekicked or Minion by John David Anderson
Princess in Black by Shannon and Dean Hale*
*this is more for kids than adults Just a note*
If you have any suggestions, please leave a comment down below. Happy Reading!
